Venezuelan Leader Gives Nobel Medal to US President

María Corina Machado, a leader from Venezuela, met with US President Donald Trump. She gave him her Nobel Peace Prize medal. Machado said the medal shows they both want freedom. This meeting shows the changing relationship between the US and Venezuela's opposition. The event has caused much talk internationally.

The private meeting happened without news reporters. Machado gave the medal to President Trump. Later, Trump posted about it on social media. He called it a "wonderful gesture." He praised Machado for her strength. He said her action was because of his policies. This shows the President likes these kinds of gifts.

After the meeting, Machado spoke to reporters. She explained why she gave him the medal. She compared it to Simón Bolívar, a historical leader. Machado called Trump an "heir of Washington." This means she thinks Trump supports freedom efforts. She sees his actions as similar to past US support.

The timing of this gift is important. US forces recently helped arrest Venezuela's President Maduro. He faces drug trafficking charges. The US has been strong against Maduro's government. However, the US has not officially supported Machado as the next leader. Machado told her supporters they can count on President Trump. This might signal a change in strategy.

The meeting was private and not very public. This is different from how President Trump usually acts. The Nobel medal gift has made people talk more about Venezuela's problems. It also highlights outside countries' roles. We do not know what will happen next. However, it was a unique moment for US-Venezuela relations. The Nobel Committee has not commented.
