Leaders meet to talk about peace in Cyprus

The Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders will meet this Thursday. They will talk with a special United Nations (UN) representative. The goal of the meeting is to restart peace talks for the island of Cyprus.

This is an important step. Before the meeting, the leaders will visit a special laboratory together. This laboratory works to find people who went missing after a conflict in 1974. This shared visit is a positive sign for peace.

The UN representative, Maria Angela Holguin, will listen to the leaders' ideas. She wants to see if they can agree on a plan. The leaders hope this meeting will help them prepare for a bigger peace conference in early 2026.

The President of Cyprus said he is ready for this big meeting. He wants to build a good foundation for peace. The peace process is difficult because of past problems. However, these new talks give people a small reason to be hopeful.
