Nicaragua Frees Some People from Prison

The government of Nicaragua let some people out of prison. Many people think other countries asked them to do this. The United States asked for people to be freed. A group that watches rights said 19 people were let go.

The government did not say much. They said "tens of people" could go home. President Daniel Ortega's government has been told it is not good with rights. They also stop people who do not agree. The U.S. asked for these people to be freed. They want more freedom for people in Nicaragua.

Some people in Nicaragua think this is for politics. They think the timing is good. The U.S. was strong with Venezuela. Nicaragua may do this to stop criticism. It can also help them not get punished. The U.S. Embassy asked for leaders to be freed.

The U.S. Embassy said many people are still in jail. They said over 60 people are held wrong. This is for church workers and old people. They said, "Peace is only with freedom!" Many people are still worried. The 19 people are a start. But more people may be held without a fair trial.
