Young Workers Face Problems in Cyprus

A TV show told us about bad things. This happened in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. A reporter named Tir Dhondy made a film. The film shows rude talk and bad homes. Young workers, some only sixteen, had problems. Companies used them for money.

The reporter worked as a hairdresser. She heard many rude comments. Some workers were asked for sexual favours. A boss said bad things. This was not respectful. A manager talked about jobs and favours. This is a big problem.

Workers also lived in dirty homes. Their homes had mould and insects. They had little water. Many slept in small rooms. These places were not safe.

Companies offer holiday jobs. These jobs cost money. They promise fun and money. But they hurt young workers. Two workers, Isobel and Carmen, had bad times. Tourists also saw the problems.

This film shows young people are used. We must help these workers. The problems in Ayia Napa need help. We must keep workers safe. They must be treated well.
