Cyprus Police Hours Dispute

A police group in Cyprus is upset. The group is called Isotita. They say the Chief of Police did wrong. His name is Themistos Arnaoutis. He changed police work hours. Isotita thinks this change was not allowed.

The group says a government group should agree. This group is the Council of Ministers. Isotita says this did not happen. Now, other countries are looking.

A European police group will visit Cyprus. They want to see the problem. The problem is a law. Isotita says the law needs government approval. The head of Isotita, Nikos Loizides, said this. He said approval was not given.

Mr. Loizides said the Chief has too much power. Lawyers agree with Isotita. They think the new hours are not legal. The changes will hurt police officers. It will change their lives and health.

The group says officers will have fewer rest days. They might get 15 fewer days each year. Isotita says this is not fair. Police leaders cannot change this alone.

This is now a big problem. The European group will tell the European Parliament. Isotita calls this an "international disgrace." They think police officers are treated badly. The group will fight the new hours.
