Hungarian leader visits Russia

Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán went to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This happened just days before new international talks about the war in Ukraine. This visit is one of several independent trips by Orbán that often make other leaders in Europe unhappy.

The two leaders talked about the situation in Ukraine. Russian television showed the meeting. President Putin said he liked Hungary's "fair" view of the war. However, many European leaders were angry about the visit. They said Orbán did not have permission from Europe to go.

The Hungarian group also made business deals in Moscow. They agreed that Russia will continue to send gas and oil to Hungary. They also promised to work together on a nuclear power project. This is important for Hungary's energy supply, while other European countries are trying to stop using Russian energy.

Orbán also said Hungary is ready to help with peace talks. He offered Budapest as a place for Russian and American officials to meet. Some people noticed that the meeting between the two leaders seemed a little awkward at times. This visit shows that Orbán continues to be one of Putin's main partners in Europe, which causes problems with his allies.
