EU Gives Money To Find Missing People

The EU is giving €2.6 million. This money goes to the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP). The CMP will use it to find people. These people disappeared in past wars in Cyprus. The EU wants to solve this old problem. This is part of a big EU plan. The EU has given the CMP much money since 2006.

The CMP has Greek and Turkish Cypriots. They help families. Families want to know about loved ones. The group finds and returns bodies. They want to finish most cases by 2026. The new EU money is important. It helps find and name bodies.

The CMP has found 1,707 bodies. They named 1,058 missing people. This shows the war's sad results. Many Greek and Turkish Cypriots are found. Greece and Turkey also help. This shows a wish for peace.

The CMP's work helps families. Last year, 22 bodies were found. Seven people were named. Six were Greek Cypriot. One was Turkish Cypriot. The EU helps this work a lot. This helps the CMP reach its goal.

The CMP's work is a sign of hope. It shows what can be done. The EU's help is good. It helps bring peace to Cyprus. More help is needed by 2026. This will end families' long waits.
