Cyprus Police Changes Worry People

There are worries about changes in Cyprus Police. The Justice Minister, Costas Fitiris, asked for less fighting. He said laws should solve problems. Police unions and parliament members are also worried. They want to talk about the issues.

The Minister thinks laws will fix reform problems. He does not want to listen to unions. He said, "This fight is not good." He wants peace in the police. This is important. Police stations in Paphos and other areas have few staff. People worry about crime.

Minister Fitiris will not give more officers. He wants to move police to help. This could stop crime better. The government wants to use staff well. Police are changing now. They hope to work best by April. The Chief of Police will decide.

But these changes cause problems. Some members want the legal committee to talk. They want more people to discuss issues.

The Minister likes police work in Paphos. He said problems are not everywhere. The Ministry will get new technology. They will also fix old problems. They will work with the Chief. The Minister said officers are very important. Reforms must help them. The goal is a strong police for Cyprus.
