New Wage Agreement in Cyprus

Cyprus has a new agreement about wages and the cost of living. The government, employers, and worker groups agreed to bring back a system called COLA. The president said this will help families with their money problems. The system will give people full protection from rising prices in two years.

The COLA system is old, but it is now returning. It automatically raises wages when prices go up. This helps workers buy the same things. However, only 44% of workers in Cyprus will get this help. That is about 227,000 people. But 288,000 workers will not get this automatic help.

The system helps people who earn more money the most. This is because the raise is a percentage of their salary. So, the difference between high and low salaries can grow.

Many workers are not in the system. This includes temporary workers and people in small businesses. They do not get automatic raises. Prices are not rising much now, so it is not a big problem. But if prices rise a lot in the future, these workers will have problems. The new system helps some people but not everyone.
