A big fire happened on New Year's Day. It was at a bar called "Le Constellation". This bar is in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Many people were celebrating. The fire killed about 40 to 50 people. Many others were hurt badly.
The fire started at 1:30 AM. A waiter was dancing with a sparkler. The sparkler hit the ceiling. The bar burned very fast. Many young people were inside.
People tried to get out. They used one small stairs. Some broke windows. Helicopters and ambulances came. They took hurt people to hospitals.
The President of Switzerland is Guy Parmelin. He said it is a sad day. There will be five days of mourning. Firefighters are working in the bar. This will take many weeks. The owners of the bar are safe. They think it was an accident.
