Cemeteries Get New Life in Cyprus

Some cemeteries in Cyprus are not good. They are old and broken. Parts are missing. But a new project started. It helps fix these places. This project also helps people trust each other. Things are getting better now. People feel happy.

A group is fixing these old places. People from Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides are on the group. They are working on 30 cemeteries. 15 are Turkish Cypriot sites. 15 are Greek Cypriot sites. The UN announced this project. It is good for remembering people.

Ali Tuncay leads one side. He said it is serious. Many tombstones are broken or gone. This shows damage over time.

The work fixes walls and cleans plants. They fix old tombstones. The goal is to make places safe. They want to show respect.

This project helps people work together. They fix a big problem. This is good for peace. Fixing cemeteries shows respect. It respects families and history.

A UN person visited two cemeteries. She saw the work. She was happy about the progress. People from both sides talked to her. It is a team job.
