China Adds Tax on Birth Control

China has new tax changes. They added a 13% tax on birth control. This is to help with fewer babies being born. The country's population has gone down for three years. People are confused by this new plan. They do not think it will help families.

The new tax started this year. It is on things like condoms. But childcare is still free from tax. This is to make raising a family cheaper. Many people do not think this will work. Experts are not sure if it will help.

China has a big population problem. Last year, fewer than 10 million babies were born. This is much less than before. The population is getting older. The economy is also slow. The government tried other things. They made birth rules easier. They also gave money to families. But these ideas did not help much.

People worry about money. Raising children costs a lot. The tax on birth control caused many online talks. Some people asked why this was done. They said buying birth control is cheaper than raising a child. This affects parents' choices.

There are worries about bad results. Unwanted pregnancies might go up. It is not sure if this tax will help. China needs better solutions for its population. We will see what happens.
