City Audit Finds Money Problems

An official check found many money problems in the Limassol city government. The check looked at the years 2021 to 2024. It found that the city did not follow the rules for public money.

City leaders paid some workers in a way that was against the rules. Sixteen workers got special pay, and twelve of them should not have received it. The city also moved workers to new jobs without following the correct steps.

The city spent a lot more money on overtime pay. This pay went up by 176% since 2017. The city did not check if workers did the extra hours they claimed. One official got €100,000 for overtime but did not use the system to record his time.

The city says they needed to pay overtime because they could not hire new people. But the auditors say this is not a good reason for breaking the rules. The city must now explain these problems by December 8. People are worried because this happens while the cost of living is high for everyone.
