Traffic Crisis at Nicosia Schools

A big traffic problem at a major school area in Nicosia was discussed in parliament. Every day, over 1,200 students get stuck in traffic jams. The problem is at a place with three schools on Presidential Palace Avenue. The traffic is very bad, and people worry emergency cars like ambulances cannot get through.

The main issue is that all three schools use only one road at the same time. Cars often stop for many minutes at a busy junction. A politician asked, "What happens if an ambulance needs to come?"

This is an old problem. The government had ideas to fix it, but they did nothing. One reason was a lack of money for an important survey.

Now, the Nicosia School Board says it will pay for that survey soon. They also have new plans for 2024, like a pedestrian bridge. One school is also thinking about changing its start time to help with traffic.

People hope these new plans will help, but a bigger solution for the roads is still far away.
