Cyprus Leader Wants Talks on Homes

The leader of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, wants to solve a big problem. He says talking is the best way. This is about homes in the north of the island. He wants Turkish Cypriots and Turkey to talk. The leader says homes are important for peace.

Cyprus will start new legal actions. These actions are for people using Greek Cypriot homes in the north. Turkish Cypriots do not like this plan. Their leaders say it is not good. They say it will not help people be friends again.

A Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, says Turkish Cypriots also have rights. They are looking for proof of homes taken from them. But President Christodoulides says problems will end with an agreement. He wants everyone to talk.

This problem is making it hard to buy homes in the north. Buyers are worried. They do not want legal problems. Homes are linked to the island's problems.

The problem started in 1974. Many Greek Cypriots left homes in the north. Many Turkish Cypriots left homes in the south. Cyprus says Greek Cypriot owners were removed. Turkish Cypriots say current owners are okay.

Mr. Erhurman says force will not help. He thinks peace must be built slowly. Cyprus wants legal action. Turkish Cypriots want a slower way. Both sides need to talk.
