Houses Cheap in Cyprus, Shops Cost More

Houses in Cyprus are cheap and big. They are cheaper than in other European countries. But, shops are getting more costly to rent. Many companies want shops. Not many new shops are built.

For ten years, house prices in Cyprus have not changed. This is not like other parts of Europe. House prices there have gone up. So, people in Cyprus can pay for their homes easily. They use only 11% of their money for houses. This is less than the European average of 19%. Also, few people spend much money on housing. Cyprus homes are also not crowded. Only 2% of people live in small homes.

But, houses are easy to buy. Shop rents are going up. Shops in good areas can cost €70 each month per square metre. This is much more than before. Shops in Limassol cost €39 per square metre. The best shops cost €94 per square metre. Nicosia and Larnaca also have higher prices.

Big shops and fast-food companies want these shops. So, rents are rising. It also takes time to build new shops. Some people say new rules make it worse. The government will build 500 new homes. Young people find it hard to buy homes. Experts say good plans are needed.
