Cyprus Fights Animal Sickness

Cyprus has a big plan now. Animals have a sickness. It is called Foot and Mouth Disease. The sickness is in Lapathos. The government is very careful. All groups work to stop the sickness. Rules are strict on the island. Australia also stopped calling Cyprus FMD-free. This will make exports harder.

A big meeting was on December 22nd. It was for three hours. Farming groups and vets were there. They talked about stopping the sickness. They also talked about strong rules. Everyone said it is serious. It can hurt money.

The government has a plan. Farms must be safe. Rules stop animals from moving. This is between the north and south. Police watch the Green Line. They stop animals moving wrongly. Milk is also checked.

Australia stopped calling Cyprus FMD-free on December 19th. This is bad for halloumi cheese. Halloumi is important for money. Cyprus talks to Australia. The European Commission knows.

People worry about the sickness spreading. Farmers will help stop it. The government says not to worry. This sickness is not for people. Animal food is safe. The next days are important.
