Airsoft Players Want Legal Sport in Cyprus

Airsoft players in Cyprus want their sport to be legal. The Cyprus Airsoft Association (CAA) is asking the government for new rules. They want clear laws for buying and using airsoft equipment. Many people say airsoft toys are not real guns.

For many years, airsoft has been in a gray area. It was technically illegal because of general gun laws. This affects about 6,000 players. The sport is growing now. Interest grew by 70% during the pandemic. So, clear rules are needed.

The CAA wants to show airsoft is not dangerous. They say current laws do not understand this. A Member of Parliament supports the new plan. It wants rules like paintball. The goal is a clear system for equipment. There will be rules to stop misuse.

The plan includes special areas for games. These areas will be marked for safety. Organizers will tell the police about games. They will use a code word to stop games if needed. Safety is very important. Players must be 18 or older.

Making airsoft legal will help players. It will also help people understand the sport. The CAA hopes the new law will be in place by January. This will be a new start for airsoft.
