Christmas is coming soon. But many people in Cyprus do not have much money. Food for Christmas is more expensive now. This is hard for families who do not have enough money.
New numbers show many Cypriots earn little. Almost 28 out of 100 people earn very little. These people find it hard to pay for things. Only a few people earn a lot of money. Most people are in the middle. About 140,000 people earn less than €12,400 a year. This is not much money.
This is a big problem. Many older people earn very little. They have fixed money. They also pay for health. Children are in this group too. Many people with low incomes pay their rent late.
Food prices are higher. A big Christmas meal for four people costs about €160. A cheaper meal costs €33. This is more money than last year. This makes it hard for families with less money.
Some food costs more. Cucumbers cost much more. Tomatoes cost much more. This means Christmas food is harder to buy. Some families must choose. They may not buy food or do old traditions.
