UK Office Hit By Big Computer Attack

The UK Foreign Office has a big computer problem. It happened in October. The office is called the FCDO. People are worried about private information. A hacking group from China might be the cause. This shows government computers are not safe.

Minister Chris Bryant said there was a hack. He said they knew about it in October. The FCDO has been looking into it. A FCDO person said, "We are looking into a computer problem." They also said, "We care a lot about safety." They did not say much more.

People are checking for links. They are seeing if it is like the ArcaneDoor hack. That hack was found this year. It is thought to be from a smart government group. That group has attacked computers before. A company called Cisco warned about ArcaneDoor. This was before the FCDO knew about the attack. We do not know how they did it.

Private information might be taken. This could be for many people. They might have taken visa details. This is bad for privacy. A newspaper thinks a Chinese group did it. This group has attacked people who do not like China. They might want information.

A minister said people should not worry too much. They said the risk to people is small. But stolen visa details are a big issue. This shows computer attackers are dangerous. It shows we need strong computer safety. Countries also need to work together.
