Cyprus Forests Grow Slowly

Cyprus has the least forest growth in the EU. Its forests grew only 1.6 per cent. This is much less than other EU countries. Portugal grew 11.1 per cent. Denmark grew 7.6 per cent.

Cyprus must buy wood from other countries. This will not change soon. The government wants to protect nature. They also want people to enjoy the forests. This is good for the environment. But it means less wood is made in Cyprus.

Cyprus has forests on 18 per cent of its land. The government wants to keep them healthy. This helps plants and animals. It also gives people nice places to visit. Because of this, Cyprus will keep buying wood. The data shows Cyprus makes important choices for nature.
