Military Takes Control in Guinea-Bissau

In Guinea-Bissau, the army has taken power. They removed the country's president, Umaro Sissoco Embalo. This happened on Wednesday. A group of soldiers said they are now in charge to bring back order.

The army said it has total control. They stopped the election process and closed the country's borders. They also made a rule for people to stay inside at night. The new leader is General Horta Inta-A. He was sworn in as a temporary president for one year. The army said they acted because politicians were working with a drug dealer to cause problems.

The old president, Mr. Embalo, said, "I have been deposed." He was then taken to another country, Senegal. Other important people were also arrested.

This army action happened during a tense time. The country just had a presidential election, and people were waiting for the results. Some groups say the election was not fair.

Other countries and African groups have condemned the army's actions. They want the old government to return. This is not the first time the army has taken power in Guinea-Bissau.
