Cyprus will have elections in May 2026. Many young people do not vote. New numbers show over half of young people are not registered. This is a problem for democracy.
The Ministry of Interior shared these numbers. About 52% of people aged 18 to 25 are not registered. Also, almost 40% of younger adults are not registered. This means young voices may not be heard.
The Ministry will send letters to young people. They will also make public announcements. People must register by April 2, 2026. Election day is May 24, 2026.
Young people not voting can change decisions. Issues for young people might be ignored. These include housing and the environment.
It is important for the government to help young people vote. If they do not vote, the election may not show all of society. This could make democracy weaker in Cyprus.
