On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the war in Ukraine. He was in the city of Bishkek. He said two different things.
First, he said he was open to a peace plan from the United States. He said the plan could be a start for future talks. But then, he gave a strong military demand to Ukraine. He said Ukrainian soldiers must leave the entire Donbas region. He said, "If they do not pull back, we will achieve this by military means."
He also said that Russian forces are doing well in the war. He said Ukraine wants to fight "to the last Ukrainian," and Russia is ready to follow this course.
Other countries are very doubtful about Russia's demands. Ukraine's leader said Russia does not want real peace. European leaders do not trust Russia's promises.
The main problem continues. Ukraine will not give away its land, but Russia wants this land to be officially recognized as its own. New talks will happen soon to see if peace is possible.
