Cyprus Closes Hospital Over Nurse Problem

Cyprus is having a problem with hospitals. The Health Ministry is looking at a private hospital. This hospital is in Nicosia. The ministry might stop its license to work. This is because there are not enough nurses.

Private hospitals in Cyprus are not happy. They say the government is making things worse. The government did not fix this problem before.

A group called Oev speaks for private hospitals. Oev says closing hospitals is bad. It can make the health system unsafe. This problem started after a check. Officials found many nurses were missing. One room had no nurse at night. Another room needed six more nurses.

The hospital also did not have some papers. These papers were for helpers. The ministry sent a notice on November 28. The hospital has 15 days to talk. They must explain why they should stay open.

Oev thinks the ministry is blaming the wrong people. They say private hospitals told the ministry about the problem. There are not enough nurses everywhere. Oev thinks the ministry must fix this. They say the ministry is moving blame. The ministry knew about this for a long time.

Oev says hospitals are in danger. This can happen if they need just a few more nurses. This shows a big difference in health care. Private hospitals are important. They say the ministry has no good plans for more nurses. They do not make it easy to hire nurses from other countries.

Oev thinks the ministry is using a bad way. They are punishing one hospital for a big problem. This could hurt people who need care. The hospital in Nicosia must give good reasons. Other private hospitals are also worried. They fear more hospitals might be closed. This makes things uncertain.

This is a big moment for health care in Cyprus. The ministry says it must keep people safe. But private hospitals say closing them is not the answer. It does not fix the main problem: not enough nurses. This could hurt patient care. We will see if the government and private hospitals can work together. They need to find answers for the future.
