Cyprus Leaders Meet For Peace Talks

Leaders from Cyprus met a UN envoy. It was the first big meeting in six years. They want to start peace talks again. The meeting was at an old airport. This airport is between the two parts of Cyprus.

President Christodoulides and Mr. Erhurman talked. The UN envoy, María Angela Holguín Cuéllar, led them. They talked for almost four hours. This was a good meeting. It is the best talk since 2017. Cyprus has been in two parts since 1974.

The leaders also saw a lab. This lab helps find missing people. It showed the sad part of the problem. The UN said they will work for a solution. This solution is a plan for two zones. It is also about fair politics for everyone.

They will do things to build trust. They will work on missing people. They will also work on Halloumi cheese. They will make crossing points better. But they did not agree on a new crossing. This shows they still have some problems.

The UN envoy will meet Greece and Turkey. This is for a bigger meeting. Greece, Turkey, and the UK will be there. Both sides of Cyprus will also be there.

President Christodoulides is happy. He wants to start talks. The UN said this is not the end. The leaders will meet again. Their teams will talk. This is a new start for talking.
