Deadly Fire in Hong Kong

A very bad fire happened in a public housing area in Hong Kong. It was the deadliest fire there in more than 70 years. At least 94 people died, and many more are hurt. The community is very sad.

The fire started on Wednesday afternoon in the Wang Fuk Court buildings. It burned for three days. The fire spread very quickly to seven tall buildings. Firefighters had a very difficult job.

The fire moved extremely fast. It went from one building to another in just six minutes. Officials say the reason was unsafe bamboo scaffolding and very flammable materials on the buildings. These were there for repairs. Firefighters arrived only six minutes after the call, but the fire was already huge.

Rescue work was very hard because of the heat, smoke, and falling pieces of the buildings. One person was saved from the 16th floor a whole day after the fire started.

The government is investigating the fire, and three building company bosses have been arrested. People are angry and are asking bigger questions about building safety in a city with so many tall buildings.
