Cyprus Economy Grows, Energy Still Hard

Cyprus's economy is doing well. The end of 2025 showed good steps. The University of Cyprus said this. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) also has better money. But, the country still has problems. Getting enough energy is hard. Many homes also pay high energy bills.

An important sign shows the economy's future. It grew by 1.8% in November. This steady growth helps the economy. It is managing world money problems. People feel a little less sure. This is true in some areas.

The EAC made a profit of €37.3 million in 2024. This is better than last year. They saved money. They spent less on pollution. This money will help make the electricity grid modern.

The EAC chairman, George Petrou, spoke about prices. He thinks prices will be lower in 2025. He said prices will not go up much. The EAC is also building more energy storage. A big system will be ready in June 2026. Cyprus will need more storage by 2030. This is for using more green energy.

The Ministry of Energy is working on new things. But many families cannot pay their energy bills. Many homes had energy poverty in 2023. This number is higher than before. It is hard to do big energy plans and help people.

Cyprus is making slow but good progress. The economy is stable. The energy sector is getting modern. But energy poverty is a growing problem. New plans must help all families. Cyprus needs to balance its economy and energy future.
