Cyprus Has Xenophobia, Study Says

A new study shows Cyprus is in the top ten countries in Europe for xenophobia. Xenophobia means people do not like others from different countries. The study also found people in Cyprus do not trust their government much. This has been happening for twenty years. People in Cyprus like democracy, but they are not happy.

Researchers looked at a big survey. This survey asked people in over thirty European countries. The survey was done in parts of Cyprus. The next part will start in late 2025. They used a good method for honest answers.

The results are worrying. Cyprus is in the top ten for xenophobic feelings. People do not trust politicians in Cyprus. Trust has been low since 2006. People trust the European Parliament more than their own. Some see a small increase in trust. This may be because new political groups started.

People believe in democracy. But they think it does not work well in Cyprus. This is a big gap.

These findings are important. Xenophobia makes it hard for people to live together. Low trust in politics makes the government weak. The University of Cyprus says the survey is important. Good information helps make better plans.
