Cyprus Increases Minimum Wage

The government in Cyprus has announced a new minimum wage. It will now be €1,125 per month. This is an increase of €125.

The new and old labour ministers shared this news on Monday. The new minister said reviewing the minimum wage is a key goal for him. He also wants to improve pensions and stop undeclared work.

This is the second increase recently. The wage was €940 before, and then it became €1,000. The government uses a special rule for these changes. The rule connects the minimum wage to the country's average wage and the cost of living.

Because of this change, thousands of workers will get more money. The government hopes this will help people live better. There is also a separate pay increase for many workers in hotels and restaurants.

The new minister says the government will keep talking with businesses and unions about the minimum wage in the future.
