A Vulture Dies After Release

A Griffon Vulture died in Cyprus. It was part of a special program to help the birds. The program is called "LIFE with Vultures". Many groups work on it together.

The vulture was released into the wild on Thursday. It had a GPS tracker. It flew about 40 kilometers to find other vultures. But the next day, it stopped moving. The team found the bird dead.

The vulture died because of electricity. It landed on a dangerous power pole. The pole was not safe for birds. This is a big problem for large birds in Cyprus.

The team was very sad. They said humans cause the two biggest threats to vultures: poisoning and dangerous power lines. They warned about this before.

The program brings vultures from Spain to Cyprus. This vulture was rescued last October because it was sick. It got better after six weeks of care. But its new life in the wild was very short.

Conservationists say they must make power lines safe. They also must stop poisoning. They still hope to save the vultures in Cyprus.
