Cyprus Gets New Earthquake Equipment

Cyprus is getting new, modern equipment to help after earthquakes. The European Union is giving €2.5 million to pay for it. This is important because Cyprus is in an area where earthquakes often happen.

The country will buy special rescue vehicles and a mobile command centre. This centre can work even if phone lines break. Cyprus and Greece will also do training programmes together. They will use a "train-the-trainer" method. This means they will teach a group of firefighters, who will then teach others in Cyprus and Crete.

Government leaders said this project is very important. They talked about recent earthquakes that shook the island. One minister said it is "absolutely essential" to be better prepared. A fire service chief said the new equipment and training will help them respond faster and work better with Greece.

This project is part of a bigger plan to improve how Cyprus handles disasters. By getting new technology and training people, Cyprus is working to keep everyone safer.
