In Cyprus, politicians had a big argument in parliament. They are angry because the government pays €800,000 every year to rent a building. This building is the office for the Ministry of Defence.
The politicians said this is a waste of public money. They think it is bad because the government does not own the building. One politician, Costas Costa, said the situation is "unacceptable."
Defence officials answered the criticism. They said they have a plan for a new, permanent office. A representative, Panayiotis Simeou, said they have chosen a place for the new building and they want to build it quickly. But they need the finance ministry to approve the money first. Building it will take about five years.
However, the government's Audit Office is not sure the plan will be fast enough. They think the rental agreement will have to continue for more years. This means the government will probably have to keep paying the high rent.
The argument was part of a bigger discussion about problems in the defence ministry.
