Congo and Rwanda Sign Peace Deal

The leaders of Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement in Washington D.C. The United States helped make the deal. The presidents of both countries promised to stop the long conflict.

The fighting is in eastern Congo. This area has many minerals but also many problems. Rwanda says Congo helps a rebel group called the FDLR. Congo says Rwanda helps a different rebel group called M23. This year, M23 rebels took more land and many people had to leave their homes.

The two presidents met with the American leader and other African leaders. The agreement says Rwanda must stop helping M23. Congo must stop the threat from the FDLR. Both countries must respect each other's borders.

They signed the deal even though there was new fighting. The American president said he believes the leaders will follow the agreement. An expert said the real test is making the peace work in Congo. The deal is a new hope to end the violence.
