Monte Verde was thought to be 14,500 years old. This was older than the Clovis people. Clovis people lived in North America 13,400 years ago. Scientists thought Monte Verde showed people came to South America first.
But now, Dr. Todd Surovell and his team have new ideas. They think dirt moved over time. This made the place look older. Their study says Monte Verde is now thought to be 6,000 to 8,000 years old. This is like the Clovis people's age.
