Cyprus has opened its first national milk bank for babies. It is at the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital. The bank will give safe donor milk to very small or sick newborn babies. These babies cannot drink their own mother's milk at first.
This is very important because a mother's milk is the best food for a newborn. It helps babies fight sickness and grow strong. But sometimes, after a difficult birth, a mother cannot provide milk right away. Before this bank, Cyprus did not have a good system to help.
The charity "Thermokitida Agapis" gave the money to start the bank. The Health Minister supports the project. The bank will work very carefully. All donated milk is checked, heated to make it safe, and stored correctly.
Doctors say this is a big step for healthcare in Cyprus. It helps families during a hard time. It gives every baby, even the smallest, a better chance to be healthy and strong.
