A Problem with an ID Card

A simple mistake on an ID card has caused a big political problem between Cyprus and Greece. A person from Cyprus got a new Greek identity card. The card used the Turkish name, "Iskele," for their birthplace, not the Greek name, "Trikomo." This town is in a part of Cyprus controlled by Turkey.

A Cypriot politician, Nikos Georgiou, wrote a letter to the government. He said the mistake was against the law and needed to be fixed. He believed it was not done on purpose. He said it probably happened because of an automatic computer system.

At the same time, Turkey criticized Greek officials for other recent comments. They said the Greek statements were not helpful.

Names are very important in Cyprus because of its long history of division. This small error on a card shows the bigger problems in the area. Greek officials acted quickly to fix the mistake. But it reminds everyone that even small details are very important in this difficult political situation.
