Polish Official Accuses Turkey of Fake News Campaign

A Polish diplomat says Turkey is using fake news against Cyprus. He said this at a private meeting with journalists in Nicosia. The meeting was about the problem of misinformation.

The official said the campaign happens mainly on social media. The goal is to make people in Cyprus afraid and to break trust inside the country. Another goal is to make other countries accept Turkey's control in northern Cyprus. Only Turkey recognizes this control.

The diplomat explained that most people in Cyprus get their news from social media. This makes it easy for fake news to spread. The campaign shares false stories about migrants and the culture in Cyprus. It also shares incorrect information about the war in Ukraine.

The fake news often says the Cypriot government is controlled by other countries. Poland also has problems with digital falsehoods. The official said this is a common problem in Europe. These accusations add a new online problem to the old Cyprus conflict.
