BYD Sells Many Electric Cars in Cyprus

The Chinese car company BYD started selling cars in Cyprus five months ago. Now, it has one-third of the country's electric and plug-in hybrid car market. This is a very fast start.

More people in Cyprus are buying electric cars. The numbers show a big increase this year. This helped BYD find many new customers.

BYD worked with a local partner, the Alpan Group. They had cars ready for people to buy immediately. Since mid-2024, they sold 168 cars. Their market share grew quickly from 27% to 33%.

The government also helped. It made a new, simple online system for car-buying grants. This means people get money back faster after they buy a car. With this help and a bonus from Alpan, a BYD car can cost less than €12,000.

A BYD manager said stable government support is very important. Changes to subsidies can make people unsure. For the future, Cyprus needs more charging stations and steady rules to help people trust electric cars.
