Old Water Tank Stops New Road in Cyprus

In Cyprus, a very old water tank is causing a big problem for a new road. The tank is in Strovolos and is over 200 years old. Builders want to make a new four-lane road in the same place.

Everyone agrees the water tank is important. People built it in 1817 to bring water to the community. Old maps show it has always been there. It is made from local stone and is very big.

People who protect history and the environment said the road plans were wrong. They told the government, "Destroying this tank is a big mistake for our history."

Now, the government has a new idea. They want to change the road design. The plan is to raise the road and build it over the old water tank. This will save the tank, but it will cost more money and take more time.

The decision is important. It is about choosing between a new road and saving a piece of history.
