Disease Spreads in Cyprus

A sickness is spreading in Cyprus. It is called Foot-and-Mouth Disease. This disease spreads very fast. The European Union (EU) is helping Cyprus. The government is having important talks.

The sickness began in December. Now, the EU has strict rules. These rules mean animals on farms must be killed. This is done even if the animals look well.

An EU helper, Oliver Varhelyi, visited Cyprus. He met the President, Nikos Christodoulides. They talked about stopping the sickness. The EU wants everyone to follow rules. This is good for the animals.

Leaders are worried. The sickness can hurt farming. They know the EU rules are good. But they are sad to kill all animals. This rule helps stop the sickness.

Farmers are very sad. They can lose all their animals. This means they lose money. People are worried. Politicians want fast help. They need clear news. Money will help farmers. They can buy new animals.

The EU plan is strict. If rules are followed, the sickness can end by summer. New animals may come by autumn. This will help farming. The future is not clear.
