American officials held important meetings with Russian and Ukrainian leaders this week. They want to help end the war in Ukraine.
First, US officials met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday. The talk was long, about five hours. However, they did not find an agreement. A Russian official said, "No compromise version has yet been found."
Before this, the US also talked with Ukraine and European countries. Now, the US will meet with a top Ukrainian security official in Miami on Thursday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said there is a "real opportunity to end the war." But Ukraine says any talks must put pressure on Russia. They say Russia must stop the fighting first.
The war has continued for over 1,300 days. Many people worry that some peace ideas give too much to Russia. The US talks show that both sides still have very different positions. The world is watching to see if these new talks can help find peace.
