New Park in Nicosia

Work has started on a new park in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. The European Union is paying for the project. The United Nations is doing the work.

The park is next to the Pedieos River in the north of the city. The plan is to make a long, green park for 3.7 kilometres. People hope this park will one day connect the divided parts of the city.

The main goal is to bring people together. The city has Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. Officials want the park to build trust between them. They want to create a shared space for everyone.

Work on the first part, 1.2 kilometres long, has begun. It will have a path for bicycles, a place to walk, and many plants. This part should be finished by February 2026.

In the future, the park could connect the north and south of Nicosia. It is more than just a park. It is a step towards peace for the city.
