The United States sent many military ships and soldiers to the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela. This made tensions between the two countries much worse.
Because of this, Venezuela banned six international airlines from flying to the country. It said the airlines were part of "state terrorism." The airlines stopped their flights after a US safety warning.
The US says this is a drug-fighting operation. It says Venezuela's leader, Nicolás Maduro, leads a drug group. US forces attacked ships and said they were carrying drugs. But there is no public proof.
The US military group is very big. It has about 15,000 troops and a large aircraft carrier. Some experts say this is too big for only fighting drugs. They think the US might want to change Venezuela's government.
Both leaders used strong words. President Trump said the US could act "the easy way" or "the hard way." President Maduro said he would defend Venezuela from any threat.
Right now, the situation is very tense and dangerous. But both sides say they are open to talks.
