Bad Floods in Asia

Very bad floods and landslides are happening in Asia. Heavy rain from the monsoon season and a cyclone caused them. More than 1,200 people died, and about one million people had to leave their homes.

The island of Sumatra in Indonesia was hit very hard. There, more than 750 people died because of the rain from Tropical Cyclone Senyar. In one village, the water was so strong it destroyed a school's electricity generator. Roads are destroyed, so help cannot get to people easily.

Scientists say climate change is making these storms worse. The air and ocean are warmer now. Warmer air can hold more water. This means storms now bring much more rain. The rain fills rivers too much and causes landslides.

Poor people who live near rivers or on hills are in the most danger. Scientists say these bad floods will happen more often in Asia if the world keeps getting warmer. This disaster shows we need to be ready for more storms and work to stop climate change.
