Long Russia-U.S. Talks Do Not Stop War

Long talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and top U.S. officials finished on Wednesday. They did not find a way to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting in Moscow went for five hours.

The U.S. team gave Russia a new peace plan. But the positions of Washington and Moscow are still very far apart. After the meeting, a Russian official said they did not find compromises. He said some U.S. ideas were possible to talk about, but others were not acceptable.

A big problem is land in eastern Ukraine. Russia controls some areas, but Ukraine wants all its land back. Before the talks, President Putin said ideas from Ukraine and Europe were not acceptable.

The Kremlin said the talks were "constructive," but there is no plan for a ceasefire. The war, now over three years old, will continue. The two sides also said there are no plans for a meeting between President Putin and U.S. President Trump.
