Cyprus MPs Question Traffic Fine Rules

Cyprus had a big meeting about traffic fines this week. MPs discussed how the government collects unpaid fines from traffic cameras. The government stops people with unpaid fines at airports and borders. Some MPs say this is wrong without a judge's order.

At the same time, police shared worrying news about road safety. In one week, four people died in accidents because drivers used alcohol or drugs. This year, police recorded thousands of these driving offenses. A police chief said the real number is probably higher, especially for drugs, because testing is slow.

The government wants more money for its traffic camera system. They asked for almost 4 million euros. They say the company running the cameras gets a fixed fee, not money per fine.

Now, Cyprus must solve two problems. They need to collect fines in a fair, legal way. They also need to stop dangerous driving to save lives.
