Shooting in Washington Changes Rules for Afghan People

There was a shooting in Washington, D.C. It happened in the daytime near the White House. Two National Guard soldiers were hurt very badly. The police say a man from Afghanistan did it. The police shot the man and stopped him.

Because of this, the United States government made a new rule. Now, they will not process any new immigration requests from Afghan people. They want to check their security rules first.

The President said the attack was terrible. He said they will look again at all the people who came from Afghanistan before. He wants to send some people away if they do not belong in the country.

Some leaders say the man who shot the soldiers came to the U.S. without a good security check. But other officials say the man asked for protection legally and they checked him. This is causing a big argument.

Now, 500 more National Guard soldiers will come to Washington. The government will also check many Afghans who already live in the U.S. Their future in America is now unsure.
