Cyprus Officials' Case Continues

Cyprus Legal Service will fight a court decision. Demetris Syllouris and Christakis Giovanis were free. They were former officials. Charges were about an old program. This program gave citizenship for money. This is a big step. Al Jazeera's story made it famous.

A court freed both men. But, the prosecution thinks there were mistakes. So, they will ask for a new trial. The Legal Service will appeal. They found mistakes. They said appealing is important.

One judge did not agree. This judge thought they could be guilty. The prosecution wants to use this. The court also did not use Al Jazeera's video. They said it was taken wrongly. This made it hard to show the case.

The prosecution had problems. Witnesses were afraid. Some left the country. This made the trial hard. The Legal Service said this.

The case will go to a higher court. This will take more time. The Legal Service is worried. They think people attack prosecutors. This can hurt the justice system. The earlier decision started a talk. It was about news stories in court. The Legal Service's choice means the fight is not over.
