Cyprus Police Can Record Calls

Ministers in Cyprus agreed a new law. This law will let police listen to phone calls. They can also record them. The parliament must say yes to the law. It will help police stop crime. If the law is good, recorded calls can be proof.

The FBI gave an idea for this change. Cyprus wants its laws to be new. People's private calls are safe now. So, phone talks could not be used in court. The government wants to change this.

The President called it a "big change." He said thank you to the FBI. The Justice Minister said the law is "very important." It will give police "good tools to fight crime." The government thinks old laws are not enough.

This change needs the constitution to change. The parliament will talk about the new idea. If it is good, police will have more power. They can record calls and use them in court. This can help fight bad people.

But, this new law can make people talk. People will think about safety and privacy. Some will say it is good. Others will worry about freedom. How the law is used will be important.
